Businesses all over the world are now ultra-connected. Their operations use more and more connected objects, which will soon communicate using 5G technology. The IoT market is booming. In 2024, it is set to include some 20.4 billion objects. The proliferation of these objects exponentially increases the risk of attacks and vulnerabilities.

Generally speaking, the ability of stakeholders in the fields of IoT, hardware and embedded software to provide an adequate operational response does not match the magnitude of the cyber risk. This is partly due to the fact that security issues are not sufficiently taken into consideration at the connected object design stage. It is therefore essential to check the robustness of the finished product, at the very least.

Hardware pentesting is time consuming and fastidious, as no ergonomic solution exists to facilitate vulnerability searches, unlike software tests that are greatly facilitated by the commercial off-the-shelf tools available, and include a number of automated steps.
